History of the Courtyard Gallery

Claire Y. Harrison

The artist was born in San Antonio, Texas, grew up in Texas and spent summers in Colorado visiting her grandparents. Memories from those formative years largely influence her art and the techniques she uses. The artist now lives in Buena Vista, Colorado.

"I employ subdued pastel colors and the clearness of pen and ink to reflect the quiet calm I feel returning to Colorado," the artist explains.

Drawing from a variety of subjects and locations, she demonstrates the diversity and creativity of her talent. Upon close scrutiny, her impressionistic art seems to come to life, graphically capturing the simple, yet dramatic outlines of magnificent peaks and complex stream sides.

Her study of southwestern archaeology compliments her love of these rough, craggy hills, cerulean blue skies and the people who live among them. She currently is enjoying the challenge of incorporating sea treasures which she has collected on the Oregon beaches into original jewelry.

Her work has been shown in New Mexico, Arizona, Salida and Buena Vista, Colorado. Other artists' she admires are Gene Closs, Stephen Quiller, Hangnian Zhang, and Lawrence Sisson.
