I strive to explore new ways to express myself with my art. My inspiration comes from all areas of my life; emotion, travel, color, you name it! And with diverse inspiration comes a need to be diverse with my methods of interpretation. In exploring ways to find new interpretations I must be prepared to take risks and even to fail; from failure comes experience and perhaps a new and m
ore successful idea may evolve.
Born in Britain I relocated to Colorado in 2005 and love my new life here. I have always been inspired by the landscape in the U.S. and that inspiration has found its way into some of my work. I made my first quilt in 1986 and soon moved from traditional designs to Art Quilts. My love of clothes also prompted me to begin making Wearable Art.
Over the years I have taken classes with many of the well-known Art Quilters of the world and enjoyed the learning process and seeing the results of study in my work. I began to work as a demonstrator at Quilt Shows in Europe and the U.K. in 1997 and I now teach classes myself and enjoy passing on the skills I have. I have taught and lectured all over the U.K. and in some European countries. I have been honoured to be asked to have solo shows at a number of venues in Europe and to have been a guest exhibitor there and in the U.S.A.
Since arriving in the U.S. I have been fortunate to be juried into a number of prestigious exhibitions and alsoto have sold both my wearable art and wall hangings. I am also teaching and enjoying meeting that challenge. I am one of the owners of an art co-operative, The Courtyard Gallery in Buena Vista CO. I also serve as President of Arkansas Valley Arts Centre and also show my work at Gallery 150 Salida CO.
Through my work I find a way of expressing myself that I am unable to do in any other way. It is very personal to me and with it I am able to discover new things about myself and the world I live in. The reward is enormous when other people also respond to what I have created.
